1. Herbal Remedies for Bronchitis
Uses: Bronchial Spasms, Bronchitis, Cough
Comments: 2 tsp. Ephedra tincture
2 tsp. Mullein tincture
2 tsp. Oregon Grape Root tincture
2 tsp. Marshmallow or Slippery Elm tincture
1 tsp. Licorice tincture
1 tsp. Peppermint tincture
1 tsp. Vegetable glycerin
This can be prepared one of two ways:
Method One:Mix all of the tinctures together and store in a 1 oz. glass bottle. take 1 dropperful 3 times a day or as needed.
Method Two:The above formula can be made into a tea by combining the dried herbs in the same proportions. Steep 1 tsp. of the herbal mixture per cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Omit the vegetable glycerin and add honey, if desired. Drink 3 cups daily.
2. Herbal Remedies for Bronchial Spasms
Uses: Cough, Bronchial Spasms
Comments: 1 tsp. crushed Mullein leaves
1 tsp. powdered Echinacea
1 tsp. Elecampane
1 tsp. Red Clover
1 tsp. Marshmallow root
1 tsp. Peppermint
1/2 tsp. Licorice
1 quart purified water
2. Tbsp. Honey
2 Tbsp. vegetable glycerin
Mix the herbs into the quart of water in an enamael saucepan, bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes, covered. Strain the tea and pour back into the well-rinsed saucepan. Bring the tea back to a simmer with the lid off and cook it down slowly until half of the original liquid remains. This creates a more potent formula than the original tea. Add the honey and glycerin. Mix well.
This syrup can be flavored with a concentrated extract of cherry or another flavored syrup. Store in a glass bottle.
3. Herbal Remedies for Flu
Uses: Flu
Comments: 2 tsp. Yarrow tincture
2 tsp. Meadowsweet tincture
2 tsp. Saint Johnswort tincture
2 tsp. Usnea tincture
2 tsp. Schizandra tincture
1 tsp. Angelica tincture
1 tsp. Licorice root tincture
Use one of two methods.
Mix these together and store in a glass bottle with a dropper assembly. Take 1 dropperful in a half cup of hot water 3-5 times a day.
Or
This formula can be made into a tincture using the dried herbs. Take the dried form of the herbs in the same proportions as above (increasing the amounts from 1 tsp. each to double or triple the amount) and mix them together in a glass jar. Pour vodka or grain alcohol over them. Cover and let stand in a dark place for up to one week, then strain off the herbs and bottle.
4. Herbal Remedies for Laryngitis
Uses: Measles, Tonsillitis, Blood Clots, Colds, Weakness, Shock, Indigestion, Stomach Cramps, Chickenpox, Wounds, Nausea, Flu, Infection, Laryngitis, Asthma, Bronchitis, Cough, Vertigo
Comments: 1/2 cup apple juice or white grape juice
1/2 cup malt syrup or rice syrup
1/2 cup thinly sliced fresh ginger (peel the skin off first)
Slowly cook the syrup and the juice in a small pot on the stove, covered, until the liquid is reduced by one third. Add the ginger slices, then simmer the mixture until the liquid is gone. Spread the ginger slices on a lightly oiled cookie sheet and bake in a slow oven (250 degrees) until the ginger is a chewy candy. Approximate baking time: 45-65 minutes.
Check for desired consistency towards the end of the baking time. Store in an airtight container. Eat as needed.
5. Herbal Remedies for Mouth Sore
Uses: Mouth Infection, Mouth Sores
Comments: 1 tsp. Blackberry or Raspberry leaves
1 tsp. Goldenseal root
1 tsp. Myrrh
1/2 tsp. Sage leaves
1/2 tsp. Thyme
1 quart water
Mix the herbs and the water together in a saucepan. Bring the herbs to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer. Allow the mixture to simmer until the liquid is reduced to half the original amount. Strain off the herbs and pour the decoction into a glass bottle. Cool the liquid. Use as a mouth rinse by taking a shotglass amount and swishing it around in the mouth. Rinse in this way 3 times a day or as needed.
6. Herbal Remedies for Canker Sores
Uses: Canker Sores, Halitosis, Cold Sores, Gingivitis, Plaque
Comments: 20 drops Tea Tree oil
2 tsp. Raspberry Leaf powder
2 tsp. Peppermint leaf
4 cups water
Bring the water to a boil. Turn off the heat and add the Goldenseal and Peppermint to the water. Cover the pot and let stand for 15 minutes. Strain off the herbs and let the mixture cool. Add the Tea Tree oil. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator. Use 1/2 -1 cup of the mixture as a mouthwash. The solution can also be placed in a sterilized spray bottle and squirted into the mouth throughout the day.
7. Herbal Remedies for Allergies
Uses: Hay Fever, Allergies, Sinus Congestion
Comments: 4 tsp. Nettle tincture
4 tsp. Siberian Ginseng tincture
2 tsp. Licorice tincture
1 tsp. Eyebright tincture
1 tsp. Osha tincture
Combine ingredients. Store in a 1 oz. amber bottle with a dropper assembly. Take 1 dropperful 3 times daily. Begin taking this formula when the first signs of hay fever begin.
Note: This formula can also be made into a tea by using the above herbs in dried form in the same ratios.
8. Herbal Remedies for Sore Throat
Uses: Sore Throat
Comments: 1 tsp. Slippery Elm powder
1 tsp. Echinacea root
1 tsp. Horehound
1/2 tsp. Licorice root powder
1 tsp. honey
1/2 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon
2 cups water
Bring the water to a boil. Pour the water over the herbs and allow to steep for 15 minutes in a covered pot. Strain the herbs. Add the lemon and honey. Drink throughout the day.
9. Herbal Remedies for Sinusitis
Uses: Sinusitis, Congestion, Sinus Congestion, Sinus Headache
Comments: 1/4 cup grated Horseradish - fresh
1/4 cup chopped Parsley - fresh
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 Tbsp. grated Ginger - fresh
1 tsp. Turmeric powder
1 pinch Cayenne
1 cup apple cider vinegar
Heat the vinegar, then pour it over the remaining ingredients. Place in a mason jar with a lid, and allow to sit for 8-10 days. Strain off the plant material and store in a jar. Take 1-2 teaspoonfuls when needed.
10. Herbal Remedies for Sinus Congection
Uses: Congestion, Colds, Sinus Congestion, Chest Congestion, Chest Colds
Comments: 1/2 tsp. dried Nettles
1/2 tsp. dried Fenugreek
1/4 tsp. grated, fresh Horseradish
1/8 tsp. Turmeric powder
1 pinch Cayenne powder
2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
2 cups water
Boil the water and pour over the Nettles and Fenugreek. Let stand for 10 minutes covered, then strain off the herbs. Add the Horseradish, Turmeric, Cayenne and vinegar and let stand another 2-3 minutes. Drink 1-2 cups every 4 hours or as needed.
